Bastardo is a dark skinned grape that is mostly grown in Portugal. It can also be found in small amounts in Argentina, Spain, France, and California. On the island of Madeira it is used to make the fortified wine Madeira Bastardo. It is slowly becoming extinct there due to its low yields. In the Douro it is one of the grapes used to make port wine. Wines made from Bastardo grapes are high in alcohol content and have flavors of red berry fruits.
